March is National Women's History Month. What women are making history today?
All of us.
Check this out - I have access to one of the most awesome public radio stations in the country - WAMC (I'll also give a shout out to WRPI and WMHT as well - 3 great public radio stations, although none of them play Bob Edwards Weekend). WAMC is a terrific station and they have a great program each morning at 9 called the Roundtable. They have excellent interviews with a wide variety of people (Maya Angelou, Norman Mailer, Hilary Clinton, etc.), discussions of major events going on in society, a music segment and even good fluffy stuff like cooking segments.
The hosts of the Roundtable are Susan Arbetter and Joe Donahue. Since discovering the program several years ago I've considered Susan to be one of my heroes. She is intelligent, funny and has a fantastic radio presence. She is a strong role model for women and girls everywhere and sadly, today is her last day on the program. Susan is leaving us for WMHT TV. It will be nice to see her on our local PBS affiliate but I will miss her voice in the mornings.
There should be a nice send-off today, starting around 9. Go to www.wamc.org to listen to the live stream.
I love radio. I especially love NPR. It's funny how we can become attached to these on-air personalities. Many of my Vox neighbors have heard me crying over the loss of Bob Edwards from Morning Edition a couple of years ago. I guess I'm just a creature of habit. I loved waking up to Bob's voice every morning. The time is 29 past the hour. And I'm going to miss Susan's voice now too. I think they're doing a retrospective of her career, I would highly recommend listening to hear exactly what public radio sounds like.
