Ack - it's almost the 15th!! Just sayin!
Spent over 10 hours yesterday cleaning the house and staging it with a couple of friends. Gawd. That was a long damn day. I have to say that their help was invaluable. There are times on a project like that where I get tired of what I'm doing and move on - leaving everything half finished. Friends were awesome though, they could see the light at the end of the tunnel and the results are stunning. They think the place will sell right quick now that it has sparkle factor. We really still have three rooms left to do (kitchen, living and sitting room), but they're in limbo until the painter comes in and does his thing. Then we can finish. Well, the kitchen we can do now, but it was after 8 when they left yesterday and we were all totally spent. Mr. Val and I will go down tomorrow night and have a go at the remainder. House should be on the market mid-week!
We're still going through changes in the bugpartment. We've moved on from fruit flies and meal worms to house flies and ants. I opened the window on Thursday and proceded to kill 20+ flies in a period of 5 minutes. It was a massacre. There were half as many on Friday and only one or two still kicking around today. I killed two ants this morning. It always starts with one or two. I swear, you'd think this place was made of Kool-Aid.
I received a fabulous present in the mail from my fabulous Chicago roommate. You're the best, sweets, I love it when my friends try to scare the pants off me! Love you, mean it, don't ever change.
In other news, the teevee and blu-ray player have arrived! We haven't decided on a name for either yet, so we had to leave their birth certificates blank. Any suggestions? They're both Panasonics, the tv is 50" and is plasma. Got any creative ideas besides Panny? I was thinking Bertha or Ben, but I do like Panny too! And what about Old Blu? He needs a good name too. Let's hear 'em!
Doesn't the NES look nice sitting right there? He's not at all intimidated by the new puppies.
I'm taking Mr. Val to see dreamhouse tonight. I have Time Warner doing a survey to find out if they'll run cable for us. We were early adopters of RoadRunner in '97 so maybe they'll throw us a bone for being loyal customers. Shyea, like that ever happens.
Let's wrap this up with a bit of church music for your Sunday morning pleasure.
I was supposed to meet Myke yesterday morning inside the Farmer's Market. I was going to stand by the doors throwing the goat \m/ so he'd recognize me from my profile pic. :-) Instead, as I was walking from the parking garage, I saw a cool looking guy wandering aimlessly on the streets of downtown Troy. Lucky for me, he was walking, facing to my left, so I totally recognized him from his profile:
We got some coffee, strolled through the market and chatted while I picked up my weekly supplies. When I picked up a frozen chicken, he thought it might be a giant slab of bacon. :-) I wish!! We had good gossips and high praises for our sweet little Vox community.
We sat and chatted for a while longer before he had to hit the road for the land of spurs and cowboy hats (worn only by tourists apparently). :-) Because it was butt-cold out, I drove him to his car. We tried to get one last pic, but the elements were against us. Also, we decided neither of us take a good picture, but I thought this was funny anyway.
Oh wait, here's a good one! Wish him well on his journey home:
Every time there's a Vox meet-up, a Voxxer gets a shirt.*
Do you like the model I got to wear it? *In all seriousness, thanks for the shirt, Myke! I had a blast meeting you, hope we can hang out again this summer. :-)
Oh wait, you already know how to do that.
Like RM, my browser was just hijacked by a site called XP online scanner from an ad that popped up on one of my Vox pages. No matter what you do, it redirects you to their homepage. This is a terrible business practice and I have no idea why Vox would do business with such a sleazy company.
Allow me to take a moment to promote Firefox and the wonderful extension of Adblock Plus. Poof! No more ads!
Without the recent comments on the homepage I've felt sort of lost lately. The more comments option via Vox Watch has only worked TWICE for me this week after endless reloading every day. Even if I do go and post a comment for a neighbor, unless I'm willing to sit on their page and reload every two minutes, it's impossible to keep up with a discussion. The discussion threads here on Vox are my number 1 reason for being here. I feel like we all live on the same street but we're stuck inside with an early curfew.
I sent my feedback to Vox early on Monday and received the following response this afternoon:
I would certainly hope so. Without it, we've lost everything that really brought us all together here on Vox.We appreciate you checking on this. We have reported the issue to the team as something that needs to be optimized.
For right now, people with high volume threads they're following or commenting on may have difficulties loading the Recent Activity page. We're hoping to improve the usage of this page in the future.
- What do I want to do with my hair? Right now it's long and straight with bangs. Think Barbara Hershey in Beaches. I really like the length, but I'd like to add some shape (octagonal?). Does anyone have any suggestions?
- Why is it that my second post has 3 comments but it says "post a comment" as if there are no comments? Right now, my photo to the right says 3 comments, but there are five. Also, I can't change the name of the picture within writing this post or on the page of the picture. It acts like it changes but then goes back to "mypicture". What's with the flakiness vox?
- Why can't I get the "more comments" thing to load anymore? It's blank page city. It was working at home on my mac, but has since stopped. I have to reload the page a dozen times before it loads (IF it loads). I sent feedback to Vox on this issue last year but never got anywhere. Back then, I eventually gave up and just started using the Home page with the handful of recent comments listed there. Obviously that's gone now, so I've had to rely on that beast of a comments page. I sent feedback again this morning. We'll see what happens.
I just got my first piece of spam on Vox. Will it be the first of many??? I hope this doesn't turn into the wasteland that is myspace.
Please do not support the spammer by going to their site. I will remove the comment shortly, just wanted to point it out first.
