Still have no time for anything at the moment. Although I am sneaking away to finally meet my niece Mira tomorrow! It's about damn time! I'm so excited to see my monkey girl. I was up way too late last night. I could've never fallen asleep sooner with all of the excitement about the election. Oh yeah, by the way, BOO TO ALL YOU INTOLERANT MOTHERFUCKERS WHO WANT TO TAKE EQUAL RIGHTS AWAY FROM OUR GAY BROTHERS AND SISTERS. FUCK YOU IN YOUR INTOLERANT, HATEFUL ASSES.
It's Nerdcore tonight followed by a 6AM flight tomorrow - woo. I even get to meet my new stepmom. It's gonna be hectic but hopefully fun.
Sorry for the scattered post. Just thought I'd throw an update out there but I'm also really pissed about Prop 8 and Arizona. People really disappoint me sometimes.
Geeze I haven't posted anything except for music in a while. Whoops.
September was totally crazy at the office. With co-worker S being on maternity leave and having the October 15th deadline for a bunch of stuff at work I was completely buried. The exhaustion from work + commute put a serious strain on my personal life. Mr. Val and I were not very pleasant to be around, the word cranky would be the understatement of the century. Now that things are slowing a bit at work and S comes back next week I'm starting to feel a bit more normal. I met all of my 10/15 obligations at work last Friday and I cannot even begin to describe the difference in my mood. I am much happier to say the least.
This past weekend we started to really make a dent in pulling our house together to put it on the market (great timing, eh?). As a reward we finally started Star Trek The Next Generation. When we did have free time in the last month we played Star Trek the 25th Anniversary game and its sequel Star Trek Judgment Rites. They were both meh at best. We're only halfway into season one of TNG and I think that Wes has saved the ship in 2/3's of the episodes. Poor kid, no wonder everyone hated him back in the day. I didn't, I had a huge crush on young Mr. Crusher.
In local political news Rensselaer County sent out absentee ballots with candidate "Barack Osama" listed. Fuckers.
And lastly, to rock your 'tocktober kick back with a little Cream.
You poor people are no longer able to keep up with the world of Val. So here are a few totally pointless updates.
I'm listening to books on CD in my car. This week I finished On the Road by Jack Kerouac. About halfway through I caved and went to Wiki to find out who all of the characters were in real life, which was cool. It was an interesting story and definitely entertaining. But by the end I had grown very annoyed at the carelessness of Dean Moriarty (Neal Cassady) and started despising him.
This week I started my first Terry Pratchett story, Going Postal. Terrific, starting with the 33rd Discworld book. I've been dying to read Pratchett for years, but just haven't found the time. I have visited the Discworld universe before, but via the videogame. We've always played it whenever we've done Python stuff because Eric Idle does the voice of Rincewind. I sort of feel like I'm cheating listening to it on CD when I feel like I should be absorbing the words visually, but it's still really good nonetheless. Unlike On the Road, I find I'm bursting out laughing every other minute from even the simplest things like the structure of one of his sentences. It definitely feels like stepping into the same universe that houses Douglas Adams and Monty Python...I feel right at home.
We hit our 8th wedding anniversary on August 5th. We celebrated by purchasing and eating Perry. He was over four pounds and he was incredibly tasty (and much more difficult to eat than a 2 pound lobster!).
If you'll notice, the only item in front of either of us is a bowl of butter. We rocked this guy hardcore. We'll definitely need to invest in a hammer of some sort the next time we get a Pinchy this big.
Mr. Val recently cataloged his video game collection and we stumbled upon this oddity (please don't mind the bad photography!).
Ooh, Santana hits the 80's:
If you're a fan of Zeppelin don't buy this tribute, it's not that good overall.
A bit of Spanish Castle Magic from the Jimi box (it's cool that the box is velvet, but you need to keep it in a place free of dust...impossible in this house!).
Speaking of the Eagles. We were watching Iron Maiden's Early Days documentary and they were talking about the departure of Dennis Stratton, the guitarist from the first album. Apparently the guys in the band weren't thrilled with some of Dennis' influences and I think they mentioned the Eagles. We joked that they probably had an intervention of sorts. "Dennis...I don't know how to tell you this but ... we found this Genesis record ... it was completely by accident, but the fact of the matter is we don't think you're a good fit with the band anymore."
- Many autumn leaves never fell of of some of the biggest trees in the State Office Campus last autumn. That changed with the high winds we've had in the past couple of days. This morning it looked like November when I left my house, there were brown leaves everywhere. When I drove through the State Offices I happily plowed through giant piles of swirling leaves. I don't know why, but in the fall this gives me great joy. It's like jumping into a pile of leaves but without the chiggers. It was a nice little treat this morning.
- In other, more interesting news, PZ Meyers was Expelled (but you'll have to read to the end to find out who wasn't).
- In other, less interesting, but more personal news, kitty has a second littler box (in a bathroom the size of an outhouse) and will be visiting the vet this afternoon (how can you not be in love with a practice called "Just Cats"?...I guess maybe if you only had a dog).
- In other, more interesting and personal news, if I play my cards right, I'll get to hang out with Myke next week! Feeling jealous? You should be!!
My Mac was finally shipped out yesterday. Gee Amazon, I drop over a grand in one day and you can't be bothered to ship my stuff for six days?? And now it won't even arrive until Monday. Dammit, I wanted to play with it over the weekend. Waaah.
Been swamped at work. Shifted my schedule this week so I can be available for questions for some colleagues working on a project.
Discovered a new Thai restaurant. One word: fabulous. Four words: Twice in one week.
I left my purse at home this morning. I finally have my shit together to mail a bunch of packages and all of my cash is at home. Perfect.
The back of my foot is bruised. I have no idea how I did it. I have been taking aspirin non-stop this week due to a slew of headaches that I just can't get lick and that that might be contributing to the bruising.
I finally watched 2girls1cup last night. I don't know why I watch all of those videos people tell you not to watch. By the way, don't watch it.
My father-in-law is coming by tomorrow to help us out with a few home repair things around the house. Mr. Val and I are both clueless in that department. I can do work but I need someone else to command me. Mr. Val can't do the work, but that's mainly due to excuses and laziness.
I need to make some major changes in my life but I don't know how.
I have some fun pictures at home on my camera that I want to share, but you'll have to wait until I have the time and motivation to load them.
That's it for now. Just thought I'd check in and see how y'all are doing.

I live near an awesome little family-owned, hole-in-the wall Italian deli. This morning, Mama was slicing eggplant while Papa was making my subs. Suddenly Mama screams out causing Papa and I to jump. She turned around and I was expecting to see blood gushing from some place when she laughs, saying, "I stepped on the cat!" Poor deli-cat. I thought Papa was going to have a heart attack. We all laughed, but it did give us all a good scare.
I present, the perfect sub:
Here are a few random pictures. When I cleaned our computer room last weekend I found some stickers I got from r. stevens, so I threw them on the file cabinet.
When we inherited Mr. Val's grandpa's computer chair, we found this sweet inscription on the back. Must have been a parting gift when he sold his half of the business to retire. If you can't read it, it says "Employer, Gentleman, Counselor, Friend". Pretty high praise coming from his staff.
