...to Sister.
Sister, you truly are as glamorous and fabulous as the lovely Miss Madonna in this video.
I heard the cat out in the kitchen furiously lapping something up. When I ran out there to see what it was, I saw her face buried in 12-hour-old raw egg that had been used to coat pork chops last night. As soon as I approached, she shook her head about, flinging raw pork-infected egg all around the kitchen and even into her fur.
Usually I dump my egg dish and rinse the bowl immediately but she's never expressed interest in eggs so I didn't think it would be an issue if it waited until Mr. Val got around to dishes (which would be sometime this morning).
Now I'm just waiting for the vomit that is sure to follow this binging event. Oh lovely, she's sitting on my lap and the very moment I finished that sentence her stomach began to gurgle. Wee.
I finally got around to giving the new Pearl Jam a good listen this weekend. Sat down with the album art and lyrics and really listened to it. I didn't feel an immediate connection to every song on a musical level the way I did when I first heard Ten or Yield or their self-titled, Pearl Jam...but the lyrics are another story. It's by far their most personal album to date. While Eddie's lyrics have always been personal and there have have been occasional songs about interpersonal relationships, they've typically been more in story form. These sound like they are really coming from a place of experience in relationships. The songs on Backspacer seem deeply personal and despite the short length of the album, the lyrics speak volumes.
This five part story released by Scott Kurtz of PVP last week was a bit out of the ordinary for him, but extremely enjoyable. You can either click the images below to enlarge, or go here to read from the beginning.
If you like this so much that you MUST own it, you can pick up a high quality print from the PVP store.
Now with 30% less whine.
It was a crazy week at work. I had client meetings on Wednesday and on Thursday at 8AM...usually that's not so bad, but for the Wednesday meeting I had to drive clear to fucking Albany to be there at 8 for a 10 minute meeting. Blerg. That meant leaving here around 6:30 in order to beat the heavy traffic into town at that time of day. There was very little sleep going on during the week and I think I finally made up for it last night. If you call going to bed after 1 and sleeping until 10 a good night's sleep. S'ok though, I want to be up late tonight for Pearl Jam on Austin City Limits in HD. Speaking of which, there is a cool time lapse of the stage from set up to rehearsal to tear-down.
I watched Mannequin last week and it was just as awesome as ever. It's funny, I've been picking up cheap dvd's and blu-rays of films I loved as a kid. Clearly, I was disappointed in Beetlejuice which was really sad for me. But it boggled my mind that Mannequin held up really well. The chick who played Roxy was in one of the last episodes of Angel and is still smokin' hot. It's like her and Kim Cattrall just got sexier over time. Although, I don't know if that's *really* true because Cattrall was damn good looking back in '87 when this film was made. If Mannequin was a new film today and I saw a preview for it, I'd think it was the most idiotic looking thing ever made, but I have to say, I'm so glad I saw this as a kid so I could still enjoy it now. Then again, anything with G.W. Bailey is a sure-fire hit. Oh wait, I take that back...in reviewing his IMDB page I see he did several episodes of the Jeff Foxworthy Show.
If you loved Mannequin back in the 80's, you should definitely give it another watch, it's still a lot of fun after all these years. If you've never seen it before, proceed with caution, it is rather silly and far-fetched, but if you can get past all that it's a hoot and a half.
Could this week possibly end any sooner? What? You say it's Friday night? Well, damn, it's still not Saturday night. It should be o.v.e.r. by now. Maybe I'll run out and get a bottle of wine to pass the time. I fucking hate today.
When I was around 17 a close friend mentioned this acoustic Heart album that she listened to on repeat on a long road trip. A few years later Sister and I both had a copy of The Road Home. Produced by Zeppelin's John Paul Jones, it's an awesome 'unplugged' show played in a small club in Seattle. I think it's Ann and Nancy at their finest.
They did some old favorites, some 80's goodies and a couple of covers. I have an excuse for loving 80's Heart - and it's all because of my mother. Mom was an MTV nut back when MTV played music! I grew up loving Heart, Madonna and all of that guilty pleasure pop rock. We had their self-titled album on tape and I remember listening to it constantly in first grade (yes, first grade in 1985! that's not as young as it used to be - ha!). I especially loved These Dreams, it was one of those songs that, as a little girl, was like magic to me.
Well, I survived Metallica on Friday and got my three days worth of beauty rest that was greatly needed. I'm sure I'll add a review here in a couple of days.
Until then, it's Internet time. First up, I thought I had seen all of the official Muppet vids on Youtube, but this one escaped my notice until recently.
(Sorry I had to embed it, the video won't upload through the regular tool).
Was listening to the Drunk Tank podcast on Friday and they linked to the Joe Theisman leg-break video. I had somehow managed to never see that before. Eep! (I'm sure everyone and their brother has seen this, but it was a shocking new treat for me...proceed with caution if you haven't seen it before).
I thought it was worse than 2Girls1Cup...almost. Speaking of that famous video. A Voxxer who shall remain nameless (unless she chooses to come forward), sent me this a while ago and it gave me a good laugh.
Mr. Val insists that Northy's Spider Bite was still worse than 2Girls or Joe Theisman...I won't direct link to that video, you'll have to go to the post with the disclaimer first so I don't have to warn you NOT to watch it.
I don't have a unicorn chaser for any of this. You could go back up and watch that dog on the skateboard again, or you could enjoy the classic stylings of Mr. Bill Shatner.
If that wasn't random enough, let's pull out some old music. I discovered Dinah Washington in high school when my mom got the soundtrack for The Bridges of Madison County. I'm a girl, I can't help but love that film, even if I can't ever scrub away the image of Clint Eastwood taking a bath. Anyway, the soundtrack was marvelous and I got Dinah Washington out of it. She has one of the most beautiful and complex voices I've ever heard. This song isn't from that record, it's from an excellent collection called Blue Gardenia. I can't recommend it enough.
Last night I went down to Albany and didn't get home until quarter to one in the morning. Tonight I went down to Albany and didn't get home until quarter to one in the morning. Last night was due to laundry. Tonight was due to Metallica. That's a way better reason for staying out late!
Now it's time to sleep for the next three days.
