We're going to play Val's jukebox. I snapped a random shot of my iTunes album art screensaver. It's a little blurry, but feel free to pick something from the selection and I'll try to post it by tomorrow morning. Feel free to request a specific song or if you want me to pick something from the album.
If you have questions about one of the album covers, just drop it in comments. Note that some mp3s (like game music) use a photograph that we chose for the album cover. From the top left, columns are A, B, C... and rows are 1, 2, 3... Have fun!
Don't you hate when you make those embarrassing slip-ups? They make you cringe no matter how minor. What sucks about Vox is that you can't always delete your stupid remarks. I've also been getting my Vox in before 8AM lately so my brain isn't always with me when I start to type. Like when I responded to Teho's comment last week over at BA's place and I mixed up Robert Palmer with Rick Astley. I'm still cringing when thinking about that - I know better than that! That's not nearly as bad as the time when I was on a plane and my seatmate and I were essentially having completely different conversations. She was talking about Robert Plant. I was talking about Robert Plant. Well, I was at least saying the NAME Robert Plant. The whole time I was actually THINKING and TALKING ABOUT Robert Palmer. What is it with him? As a side note, this was a year or two before I discovered Led Zeppelin and really didn't know who Robert Plant was at the time (is my credibility still in tact?).
This morning Mr. Val and I were talking about Harold and Kumar.
Me: Weren't those the guys from Nick? They had that movie about the burger place?
Mr. Val: I don't know.
One google search later:
Me: D'oh. Harold and Kumar does NOT equal Good Burger.
This is especially shameful because I *liked* Goodburger when I saw it YEARS ago, I just didn't remember anything about it. The only thing I knew about Harold and Kumar is that it was about a couple of young guys and a burger joint. Never saw a preview or a poster, only heard the title and thought it was connected to Goodburger for sum dum reason. I still feel like an ass about it. I should just stop talking before 8AM.
I've barely been posting lately and today you lucky people get three in a row!
We found out that the Spin Doctors are headlining Tulip Fest this year - hooray! The last time they played the Tulip Fest they were rained out so we're very excited and crossing our fingers for good weather. They're playing with the original line-up, which is awesome. I also noticed this morning that we'll have to head over to the fest on Sunday because Delfeayo Marsalis will be playing. He'll be my first Marsalis live. Woot!!
[Troy McClure voice] You'll remember the Spin Doctors for such hits as Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, Two Princes and Jimmy Olsen's Blues.
We're listening through our Spin Doctors collection (of course we own them all, plus a bootleg tape), and I thought I'd share some of my favorites.
These are from Up For Grabs...Live, their first promo album. The first song is rather long, but stay tuned until the end for some Bugs Bunny love. Yo Mama's a Pajama (which you must pronounce like a downstater in order to make a rhyme!) is just plain fun.
These are from their first studio album, Pocketful of Kryptonite and you probably already know them (not a clue as to why the album art loaded for the first but not the second, ah well). Enjoy!
Sing it with me: "It's not late - naw, naw - it's earlay, earlay earlay...."
...and maybe a completist?
We now own all of Star Trek. [Edit: You could probably say that Star Trek owns us.]
I'll give that a minute to sink in.
All of Star Trek.
Through years of collection and hunting for sales, we now own it all. From TOS through Enterprise, it's a combination of tapes and DVDs and it will be our next project when we finish our X-Files games.
Why, you might ask, would we want all of Trek? Well here, I'll let the good captain explain.
Expect reviews.
When the cat first adopted us we had her using a plain clay litter. After a couple of years I became worried about the effects of it on her health so I tried to get her to use a number of different litters. Of course I did it properly, changed her over gradually. Eventually we'd find that most litters would do some, but not all, of what we wanted. Most recently I tried P-Pod. I switched her over slowly and when she finally fully using it, I was in love. That litter never smelled bad, it was all natural and it was light and fluffy. Kitty seemed happy, I was happy.
Then there was the day we saw her pee on our cds. Hmm. What could it be? She seemed to take to the new litter so that couldn't be it. Then she started peeing on the floor of the bathroom where her litter is located. I gave her a second box of litter and ended up taking her to the vet and racking up about $300 in visits, shots and tests. Her urine sample indicated she might have an infection, but the vet thought that some levels were not as high as they would be in some infections. She decided to run a course of antibiotics to be safe since we couldn't peg a behavioral issue.
One course of antibiotics plus one week later and she's still peeing on the floor. No matter how quickly I've tried to clean it, our house has that pee odor now. Guh. I was at my wits end and decided to do an experiment. Since she now had two litter boxes, I decided to fill the newer one with the hands-down cheapest cat litter on the market. I found a bag of something called Soft Paws, it was $3.25 for 25 pounds, it was even less expensive than the store brand.
She's stopped peeing on the floor and loves her cheap, nasty, bad- for- her- and- probably- has- radioactive- materials- in- it clay litter. Go figure. At least I'll be saving loads of money but it'll still take me a couple of years to recoup the $300 vet bill.
Like real children, you cannot force your ideals on to your pet. So no environmentally-friendly and healthy litter in our house. Nothing but the worst for my baby.
In honor of DKN's birthday, I present - The Beatles!
Happy Birthday Dora!
And to my other peeps, I loaded the entire Beatles White Album to a collection over the weekend. Share and enjoy.
What started out as a fun project has turned into an obsession. Uploading our entire music collection is like having a job that you never leave. I've been getting up in the morning, going to work, coming home and loading albums. At night, I dream of editing meta data. We've way too many records to do this casually and we're at the point where we've picked out a back-up hard drive because I don't think we could ever go through this process again. I will say that it has been enjoyable. We've been listening to the collection on shuffle which just gives me loads of pleasure. We have SO much game music too. I just did a quick search for "Castlevania" and found over 8 hours worth of music from that series alone. We're not completists or anything.
Currently, we're at 38.24 GB, 23.8 days, 9,941 songs. I think I only have 200 or so cds left to enter. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!
So that we're not the only ones having fun, here is a complete honest offering of the next 3 random tracks that come up. Enjoy.
The Beatles and iTunes do not play nice, so I spent the last hour manually loading album art and editing meta data. But I'm done, so here, I'll share a bit. It's not the fanciest album art, but it's an all-time favorite. :-)
If you're getting one, how are you planning on spending your tax refund?
My combined state and federal refunds should cover about 2 months of my city tax increase. Woohoo! Partay!
