Wouldn't It Be Nice

Michael Moore just sent out an e-mail this morning to everyone on his mailing list, making arguments that Edwards is the best Democratic choice.
I agree that we should look for someone other than Obama or Clinton, but I don't really agree that it is Edwards. But he's probably more electable than someone like Kucinich.

Because America has ADD and is easily swayed by polls and front-runners, I truly believe that the winner of Iowa will be the winner of the nomination.

I think all of our choices suck incredible ass.

I saw that over at Snowy's this morning which got me to thinking about this post again. I watched the youtube debate, but beyond that I've really tried to ignore the election thus far. I like bits and pieces of most of the candidates but I don't feel as strongly about any of them as I would about a Gore or Dean candidacy. I suppose I identify most with Edwards because of my blue collar upbringing and he's been very vocal about taking a stand against corporations. I really can't get behind Hilary because she's too good at being a politician and I can't get behind Obama because he's got too many corporate ties (no matter how much I really really want to like him).
yeah, I got that, too. I think I might be with him on that.

And I like your IcequeenDramaScandal analogy!!

Unfortunately, I agree with you.

You would think that the dems would've taken this opportunity to put a TRUE progressive on the ticket. But instead the current line-up has me wishing that we could abolish the 2 party system.
I could think of worse things. Well, some worse things.

has me wishing that we could abolish the 2 party system.

I'll vote for that!
He's a TRIAL lawyer. Doesn't anyone see ANY problems with that?

The trial lawyers and the insurance companies went to war over a state initiative here in the last local election. I don't trust either of them.

Trial lawyers represent clients involved in litigation, both civil and criminal. Criminal lawyers may represent plaintiffs or defendants, the "people," or the accused. Civil litigators take the side of a party in a dispute where no crime is involved.

Last time I checked, that was not only a legal profession, but a necessary one for the Constitution thing we have to function properly....

You misunderstood.

Lawyers *in general* are mistrusted by many people, and it is part of the fear and mistrust that the UK and Europe have for U.S. citizens. We are labeled "sue-happy", perhaps, because... while ligitation IS a necessary thing, not everyone believes it should be as prevalent as it is in our country.

While John Edwards may be a fine politician, some of us don't necessarily trust his profession, or his carefully crafted grooming and appearance.

It is my firm belief that the major political parties are broken (Libertarians included) and NONE represent my interests. None!

C'mon! I'll even air some of my dirty laundry:

1. poverty
2. mental illness
3. family values, support for families, etc.
4. the fact that support services for "disabilities", especially mental ones, are lumped into Social Security-- and the "aged" and "infirm" are not necessarily the same people!

The political parties are CLUELESS about the mixed needs/interests of folks in my situation because they repeatedly cross party lines. Aside from Jimmy Carter, the Dems are getting repeatedly clobbered on the religion issue-- people that their party could serve repeatedly vote Republican because they are too busy being overly pretentious intellectual (note: intellectuals that are pretentious) fucktards full of people that are fearful and angry because they were hurt-- such as and including the following: mommy, daddy, and their church friends shaming them terribly when they were children, socioeconomic middle-class guilt complexes in the environmental movment (thus they see fit to spout a lot that it's terribly practical or feasible for the poor), etc.

It's all about moral righteousness vs. social righteousness, right? Fuck that!

I wonder if now would be a good time to put in my own two cents.

I'm not much for politics. It seems to me that arguments just like this one are far too prevalent in this country. I really don't think that's going to help solve the problem. It's the same with the politicians, particularly during an election year. They are so busy trashing the opposition, that none of them stop to tell the voting public what's so great about them and we end up feeling like we're trying to pick the better of two evils. That's how I felt when Georgie and Algore were running against each other.

I wish that politics could just stop with the "I'm better than you" stuff and start working properly again. It would be so nice to have a decent intellectual discussion about the issues and who is more likely to do the better job instead of all this finger pointing and mud slinging. Don't you agree? Anyone?

I've read that a few politicians (either JFK or Bobby Kennedy, along with another opponent of theirs I can't remember-- or maybe it was someone else) used to travel and debate in the old school style-- they would take turns arguing both sides just so citizens were informed.

Obviously, such is not believable to be politically feasible anymore, and that's a shame.

Agreed.

At the risk of sounding cheesy, "Can't we all just get along?"

[this is good]
I gotta say, as much as I like the sound of it, I feel it's more of a fantasy than a prediction. I'm just in duck and cover mode--living in Kansas my opinion about candidates means nil. It'll all be over, including the shouting, by the Kansas primary, and as Kansas always goes Republican, it won't ultimately matter which Democrat my meaningless vote goes to in the general election. *sigh*

In your analogy, I'm like a tribesman from some obscure Saharan country. Ice skating? What is this ice skating?

For a while, I had hope. Now I think we're just doomed. Ugh. (sorry, kind of droopy...)
