i still haven't gotten a french press... i need to get on that for my desk, so i won't have to drink the painfully bitter coffee that everyone else here seems to like.

but i don't have a cat, so i can't do all the steps properly.. will my coffee still come out alright?!
oh.. and i have sumatra at home, too!! :)
You could just take ceiling cat down and put him on your lap while you wait. It's a good work-around. :-)
after the things he's seen??
Oh, the French - with all their luxurious time to make coffee...

Thanks for the tutorial! I've seen them but could not fathom the procedure. Do they come with lapcats or is that an add-on accessory?
You can adopt the Snotty Cat Upgrade for about $80.

It's really so much easier and quicker than a coffee pot. This looks like a lot of steps, but after doing it once it's a breeze.

Sounds and looks delicious. I do like Sumtra. I am afraid during one of these steps I would sit on the cat. Need coffee first. lol. I do have a grinder. Can not live in the Pacific Northwest without getting into coffee and very exotic teas. Love them all. Great job. Thanks for the mini lesson. Good photos

LOL -- great post!
It looks so easy to do -- thanks for the info re the beans and coarseness; wouldn't have thought of that.
Love the kitty-cautions, too!
I still do not understand the obsession with coffee.

Sorry, but I probably never will. Yes, yes, the deliciousness of it, supposedly, but if it didn't have a stimulant, I doubt people would be as interested.

Yes, even though I am yawning and bleary-eyed, I am contemplating a trip to the gym-- hot tubs, cold showers (don't yelp or laugh, it helps me), waterwalking, etc. Nothing big or strenuous right atm, for the personal trainer will take care of that in about 2 1/2 hrs.
"Can not live in the Pacific Northwest without getting into coffee and very exotic teas."

It's possible, especially if you live in the supposedly "culture starved" area I live in.

Hmmm, I guess some herbal tea or decaf white/green/lemongrass tea would still be in order right about now (...the Funk Soul Brother)
Sad thing about French Press: unless you're prepared to make a whole pot, it don't work. You can't really effectively make a half pot, because you can't get the right amount of pressure on it. *sigh*
See, that was my problem with an auto coffee maker. I hated using my coffeemaker because anything less than 10 cups never tasted good. But I *can* make a single cup of really awesome coffee with this (and I usually do, but it's been a full pot all week as I struggle with DST). My coffeemaker has been gathering dust ever since I perfected my method.

I live in the NW and I second that. :)

I love the french press, but I don't do it enough.

Why is it called a French press when Bodum is a Danish company & design???
